#1 Risk your Reputation
8min 12sec
If your livelihood rests on the approval of others…you are bound by their whim to judge you honestly. Do you value honesty? Not if it tarnishes your reputation. What is reputation? It’s counterfeit enthusiasm. Again… if your livelihood rests on the approval of others…you are bound by their whim to judge you honestly. If it were possible to think, say and act as you like without scandal, you would be free to rest your approval on something that does not judge your value. Me. I in 2008 I was once in the top one percent of my corporation, thanks to my psychosis I’ve been on disability leave since 2015.
My mental illness broke me because I remained silent about what was eating me up inside. Why? Counterfeit enthusiasm made my brain really, really sick because it’s an exceptionally poor substitute for “honesty.” If your livelihood rests on the approval of others…you are bound by their counterfeit enthusiasm to judge you honestly.
In those moments when you lack the courage to be honest, your cowardice votes your conscience away…to avoid risking your reputation on unmarketable feats. I am unmarketable. When unmarketable feats risk your reputation, this triggers counterfeit enthusiasm to assess the risk of supporting an act of courage. Silence kills feedback. Feedback kills silence. In my case counterfeit enthusiasm buckled like a belt in the moments I needed compassion, when my struggles were discussed honestly behind my back.
Don’t wait your turn to break (like I did). Risk your reputation and visit sardonicpoet.com and see me shine light on the fringes of sanity, before it’s too late for you, or someone you love.
