"Work should distract you from your family. Family should distract you from your work. When work becomes family, family becomes work.
Do you know why you need a distraction? You don't like where you're going. Where are you going? Death. The more aware you are, the less effective distraction becomes.
When nothing distracts you from this life, you focus on where you're going. Death. What happens after death?”
- Sardonic Poet
Emotional affairs in the workplace are what flip the roles between family and colleagues. That's what happened to me; I outlined this in my first book 'Dis-eased.' I had romantic feelings towards a colleague for over a decade. I looked up to my boss like a father. These are both emotional affairs.
All Emotional affairs are "romantic" (like the sea) because what you grow to love is only what they show you: MAXIMUM compatibility. Breaking through that façade is an exclusive look into someone's vulnerability. You want to occupy that space with kindness and generosity, this supplants your family because you spend more time with your colleagues than you do your family.
This is sabotage both personally and professionally. I've been there. My devotion-- I mean my ignorance was taken advantage of; I let it happen. If you are in an office environment and this rings true for you,
book an appointment. What you're not getting at home, you're looking for it at work. What you're not getting at work you're looking for at home.
